Upcoming Workshop: “Chance Images” with Laurie Doctor March, 2015 in St. Louis

Here is a calligraphy workshop for those of you in the Saint Louis area, “Chance Images” with Laurie Doctor. From her website:

Chance can be traced back to the latin, cadentia– a befalling, happening; and to the musical reference cadenza– is the improvisation at the end of an aria.

If we take these qualities of chance and incorporate them into our way of operating, it can lead to a befalling, an improvisation that has the life of music in it- becoming a kind of visual song.

In this class we will do a series of exercises that allow images to arise, and then be incorporated in pattern, paint, ink, pencil & stitching. Each student will document their work in a handmade book with a woven binding.
